How Caregram handles your family's health information — in plain language.
Our approach
Caregram is built to keep your family's health information private. By design, your records are stored only on your device. We do not operate servers that collect, receive, or store your health data.
What we store, and where
Everything you enter or scan — profiles, doctors, medicines, appointments, insurance and ID card images, notes, and voice recordings — is saved in the app's local storage on your device. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it (for example, by exporting a PDF or using the share sheet) or unless you enable iCloud backup.
iCloud backup (Premium)
If you turn on iCloud backup, your records are synced to your own private iCloud database under your personal Apple ID. This data goes to Apple's iCloud, not to us — we never see it, and we have no servers that receive it. iCloud backup is optional and off by default. You can turn it off at any time in Settings.
Scanning and on-device processing
Card and bottle scanning uses your device's camera and on-device text recognition. You can also add photos of a medicine (such as the front label or pharmacy sticker) from your photo library. Images are processed locally on your device to extract and organize text — including matching a medicine name against a drug-name reference that is built into the app, so no lookups leave your device. Scanned and added images and extracted text are stored on your device and are not uploaded to us.
On-device assistant (where available)
On supported devices (those with Apple Intelligence), Caregram offers an optional assistant that helps you read, summarize, and organize the information you have already entered. It runs entirely on your device using Apple's on-device model. Your records, your questions, and the assistant's responses are processed locally and are not sent to us or to any third-party AI service. The assistant is an organizing aid only — it does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, interpretation, or treatment, and it draws only on the information you have entered. On devices without on-device AI, the assistant instead shows a plain, locally-generated summary of your records.
Voice input and transcription
Several parts of Caregram let you speak instead of type — voice notes, dictating an appointment, and adding allergies or conditions by voice. Recording and transcription happen on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition where supported. The waveform you see while recording is generated locally from your microphone input. Recordings and transcripts are stored locally and are not sent to us. When you speak a list of items (for example, several allergies), the text is split into separate entries on your device — using Apple's on-device model where available, or a built-in local parser otherwise — and is always shown to you for review before anything is saved.
Reminders and notifications
If you create reminders or enable appointment or refill reminders, Caregram schedules local notifications on your device. These are handled by iOS on your device; the reminder details are not sent to us or any server.
Apple Health
If you choose to import from Apple Health, Caregram reads only the specific items you authorize (such as blood type and date of birth) to save you typing. This access is read-only — we never write to Apple Health — and the imported values are stored only on your device.
Crash reporting
If you install Caregram through TestFlight or the App Store, Apple may provide us with anonymous crash and performance reports through its standard developer tools. These reports contain technical diagnostics only — never your personal or health details. You can opt out of sharing analytics in your device's Privacy settings.
No ads, no selling data
We do not show ads. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs that send your data off your device.
Payments
Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details; Apple handles billing under its own privacy terms.
Children
Caregram lets you store records for family members, which may include minors, at your discretion as the account holder. Because data stays on your device, we do not knowingly collect information from children on any server.
Your control
You can edit or delete any record at any time. Deleting the app removes the data stored on your device. If you used iCloud backup, manage or delete that data through your Apple ID iCloud settings.
